In geekdom, we see a lot of teasers. Sometimes it’s just an image or the name of a creator, other times it’s a trailer or a simple tag line. Whatever it is, it’s meant to get a reaction from you and start a discussion. Inspired by the anticipation and buzz caused by these teasers, we at Fantastic Fangirls present Skipping to Conclusions in which we speculate about the comics, movies, TV shows, or whatever we’re excited about but hasn’t come out yet.
Anika: What if I got an ‘I rebel’ tattoo?
Jessica: Other than being dispirited by the re-appearance of my least favorite plot element ever (TOO MANY DEATH STARS. IT IS FRICKIN’ SPACE. THERE HAVE TO BE MORE KINDS OF DANGEROUS WEAPONS.), Rogue One looks awesome and I will probably see it in theaters approximately 3 times.
Lisa: I like her. It looks like we’re getting a major female hero that’s the same character class as Han Solo. This could be a lot of fun.
The movie looks absolutely gorgeous too, and I’m interested from just a shot of those villains. It’s weird to see a non-Stormtrooper imperial in white, so that guy looks particularly important. And the figure in black doesn’t seem to be Vader. I wonder if we’re seeing another of Palpatine’s throwaway backup apprentices in this.
I do have a little bit of trepidation. There’s a lot of speculation about the characters in this movie. A growing crowd thinks Jyn is going to be Rey’s mother (which could work very well) and seeing a non-Vader black clad enemy makes me wonder if Snoke is a figure in this adventure. I could live with either if they’re done right, but I’m worried this film, an anthology film, might end up being required watching for the main films. Usually Star Wars is pretty good about dropping little easter eggs in the main films that get expanded upon in the supplemental material but aren’t necessary for the film. I don’t want to see that end by having to watch this to understand the backgrounds of main hero or the mastermind villain in the current trilogy.
Maybe I’m just gunshy about that from too many years of superhero comics, though.
Mandy: Just f*ck me up.
Margot: You don’t understand how much I love X-Wing pilots. I loooooove the X-Wing books. And now badass lady pilot with attitude issues? This is basically from my id and I can’t wait.
Pocky: Mon Mothma looks FANTASTIC, and I love that the central pilot is female. I really had no interest in this movie before now, but now that I’ve seen the trailer it has jumped up several notches on the ‘should watch’ list.
Sam: OH MY GOD THIS LOOKS AMAZING (can there be more women please ) I AM SO EXCITED FOR FELICITY JONES TO BE AN ANTIHERO BAD ASS SPACE FIGHTER PERSON (also maybe women of color?) IS IT DECEMBER YET?
