In geekdom, we see a lot of teasers. Sometimes it’s just an image or the name of a creator, other times it’s a trailer or a simple tag line. Whatever it is, it’s meant to get a reaction from you and start a discussion. Inspired by the anticipation and buzz caused by these teasers, we at Fantastic Fangirls present Skipping to Conclusions in which we speculate about the comics, movies, TV shows, or whatever we’re excited about but hasn’t come out yet.
As I am certain everyone everywhere knows by now: J.K. Rowling is writing a new movie set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
No, not the amusement park in Orlando (Though, I would totally read that. Where magic, muggle and meta collide!). She’s penning a script for a film series about Newt Scamander, the author of the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And also Luna Lovegood’s grandfather-in-law.
I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FEEL.
On one hand this is so random! Newt Scamander?! If the series (I am very interested to know how many movies will make up this series) is based on (in?) the book is it about him collecting the information? Tracking magical creatures in the wilds of 1920s Scotland and beyond?!?! Because that sounds equal parts awesome and but seriously that is so random.
On the other hand I like that it is so random? The story of the Marauders or the First Wizarding War or Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s tragic romance would all make more sense as a go-to for More Harry Potter stories… does that mean this is a more interesting idea? I DON’T KNOW.
I do know regardless of this news, or of any of the ideas I’ve listed above becoming reality, I still want the BBC series of Harry’s story. I really love that the films cut things out and changed things up, but I would also love to see what they did with more time to tell the stories.
And more than anything I want the whole book series rewritten from Snape’s perspective. Just putting that out there.
None of that is about THIS, of course, it’s just that now my pipe dreams about more/different Harry Potter seem less absurd.
Omigosh, who will be cast?!?!
